My name is Gabriela Garza Guerra, I am a graphic designer UDEM graduate and I also have a masters in Education. Now I am an Infant Aquatics certified instructor to teach the IAS program to children 6 months to 6 years old.
The first time that I heard of this program was back in 2012, when Chelo decided to train and become an instructor with ENAI: Escuela de Natación y Autorrescate Infantil and teach in Monterrey, México. Chelo and I are friends since 1999 and when she started teaching and sharing videos of her work, I got excited and thought maybe I can do that one day, too. In the beginning of 2015, Chelo and Ana Karina invited me to be part of the team and I accepted eagerly.
During spring of 2015 I traveled to Dallas, Texas to train with Beverly Steinfink. She is a certified lead instructor with Infant Aquatics and has taught the IAS program since 1986. My training was 6 weeks long and we covered physiology, safety and psychology book studying as well as in water training to learn the IAS technique. During this time, I was directly participating in the teaching of more than 30 children of different ages. I felt very satisfied with the results we obtained.
Water accidents happen in silence, in a fraction of a second, and happen even taking precautions. That is why it is so important for children to learn these skills at an early age. Safety is our main concern and the skills that children develop in ENAI can help them save their life. It’s a privilege for me to contribute with ENAI in increasing the number of children than can swim safely.
